About

Sababa 5 & Barak Cohen – Rachok Miday

Following the success of their previous release, “Nesnosa” (Hebrew version) Sababa 5 and Barak Cohen have joined forces once again for their new single, “Rachok Miday.” The song was written by Ira Nussbaum (Lily Franco and Dark Matter) and composed by Ilan Smilan.

Right from the opening notes, you’ll recognize the distinct sound of Sababa 5, characterized by classic Middle Eastern guitar lines reminiscent of the renowned Ben Mosh and Yehuda Caesar, complemented by psychedelic synths and tight bass and drums—the hallmarks of Sababa 5’s musical style, Barak’s vocals effortlessly blend with the band’s sound, creating a retro Mediterranean psychedelic song.

“Rachok Miday.” while fresh and original, is deeply influenced by the vibrant tradition of Mizrachi music from the 70s and 80s. It’s a delightful fusion of past and present, where Barak’s soulful singing and the band’s dynamic instrumentation come together to create a truly mesmerizing musical experience. ‘Sababa 5’ is an exceptional musical ensemble formed by a collective of highly accomplished musicians renowned for their collaborations with esteemed artists and vocalists in Tel Aviv, including Gili Yalo, Ester Rada, and Liraz Charhi. The band members have also collaborated with celebrated groups like Hoodna Orchestra, Tigris, and Kutiman Orchestra, solidifying their status as versatile and sought-after performers.

Drawing inspiration from a wide array of musical influences, ranging from the iconic recordings of the ’60s Wrecking Crew to the captivating analog Middle Eastern sounds of the ’70s, ‘Sababa 5’ continuously explores and fuses various genres and rhythms. However, at its core, the band remains firmly rooted in delivering an irresistible and infectious groove, making them a captivating and rhythmically driven musical force.
Barak Cohen, a musician with a strong political standpoint, has created two albums: “Sound of a String Against the Regime” and “Barak and Noam,” produced by Noam Oxman.

In 2022, Cohen released several songs in Kurdish and Turkish languages, expanding his musical repertoire. Continuing his artistic journey in 2023, he released several songs in Greek, further showcasing his versatility and cross-cultural connections. Barak’s music is heavily influenced by Mizrahi music from the 70s and 80s, which combines elements from Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. His collaboration with Sababa5 is based on this musical style.
