Groupe RTD The Dancing Devils of Djibouti is by far one of the best releases of 2020!

This is why Groupe RTD The Dancing Devils of Djibouti, released by Ostinato Records this past June, is a ground-breaking, one-of-a-kind piece of musical greatness and we’re all here for it.
Because of the tight control, the authoritarian National government holds upon the creative industries in the Republic of Djibouti, the music created has never been indented or allowed to be released outside the country thus until now.

Therefore, Ostinato Records’ fruitful effort is beyond impressive and carries a deep historic solemnity as well: after years of negotiations with the state-run media outlet Radiodiffusion-Télévision Djibouti (RTD), @ostinatorecords was finally able to obtain a 72-hour window in which to record Groupe RTD’s material, a Djiboutian supergroup of musical legends. The result of the fast-paced recording session is this phenomenal LP, which holds a distinct vintage feeling.

Inspired by disparate influences varying from traditional Somali tracks, to vintage Ethiojazz sensation and more intercontinental flavours, the skilled members of Groupe RTD intertwine mesmerizing vocals with catchy melodies and a dynamic percussion line to create a contemporary East-African dance beat that will keep the listener hooked and the party going.

This sensational record puts Djibouti on the map, paving the road for other great artists and music in the country to finally reach wider audiences, thus allowing for further global connections and the development of unexplored artistic potential.
